Let PickyDomains Help You Find A Domain Name

July 31, 2007 | Web Tools

Picky DomainsFinding a good domain name can be a challenge and even essential to branding yourself online. I talked about this a little before in my post 5 Free Tools To Help You Find The Perfect Domain but I ran across another tool that might be of interest.

PickyDomains is different from the tools I talked about earlier because domains are suggested by 17 experienced domain namers (actual humans) from around the world (United States, Canada, Russia, UK, Australia and New Zealand).

How It Works

You deposit $50 (I know it’s not free, keep reading) and tell them some information about the website you need a domain for. What is the purpose of the website? What is the maximum number of letters in the domain name? Do you want any keywords in the domain name? Can the domain contain slashes or slang? Only dot com or not?

That information will then be relayed to their 17 experienced domain namers who will begin looking for available options. Once they start to find domain names that are available and match your criteria you will start receiving emails with those domains.

If you see a suggested domain name that you like then register with your registrar of choice and inform PickyDomains of your choice. If they don’t come up with anything you like they’ll refund your money. The service is completely risk free.

Special Deal For Bloggers

According to their website if you simply write a post about PickyDomains and their service they will offer their service for free. (Note: This is not the reason I am writing this post)

I have not personally used this service but will definitely keep it in mind for my next project. $50 seems like a bargain compared to the hours you can spend finding the right domain name.

Thanks for the info, Nate. I think it’s probably a good service for businesses trying to get online and what not.

Interesting idea, even though their logo is a direct rip from Drupal :p. Maybe they should’ve hired pickylogos.com!

Scot: I knew that logo looked familiar. Good eye.

I have used pickydomains and unfortunately found they do not stick to their promise of getting your money back. They refunded me for my first try, but when I went with them for two further projects and they came up useless names I was forced to ask for my $100 back. They ignored me, then basically told me I was trying to use their service for free and would not get my money back. Their moneyback guarantee is totally bogus and this is a scam. Steer clear.
