Can FeedHub Reduce RSS Overload?

October 11, 2007 | Web Tools | Comments (0)

FeedHub LogoI’ll admit it, I’m a serial feed subscriber. I have a lot of interests that span a number of topics. The problem is that I rarely have the time to even attempt to keep up with and read all of this information.

Originally Google Reader was a Godsend as it allowed me to easily read and absorb information much faster than browsing the actually website. However, over time I’ve found more and more sites and subscribed to their feeds. And once again I’m finding it hard to keep up with all of the information.

FeedHub is a new service that I’m hoping will help ease the RSS Overload.

What is FeedHub?

FeedHub is a product from mSpoke that aims to mashup your RSS feeds into a single feed with only the most relevant posts. Simple put, FeedHub takes all of your feeds, analyzes them, trims the fat and gives you only what it thinks you really want to read.

How Does FeedHub Work?

Built on mSpoke’s patent pending “mPower Adaptive Personalization Engine”, FeedHub filters out the stuff you don’t want and delivers only the most relevant information.

Go Mobile With MoFuse

Mobile Fusion (MoFuse) LogoThere is already a number of tools available that can help you create, monitor and monetize a mobile version of your site. However, the new service from MoFuse (Mobile Fusion) looks very promising.

What makes MoFuse really stand out is it’s simplicity. To create a mobile version of your site you simply need to create an account (of course), name your site and tell them your site’s RSS Feed URL. That’s it. Within a few minutes you can have a mobile version of your site setup.

Here is the link to Average Joe Blogger’s mobile version: http://m.mofuse.com/AverageJoeBlogger

If you want your site to automatically detect a mobile browser and display the mobile version of your site, just add the provided code to your index page.

To further customize your mobile site, MoFuse allows you to specify the color of text, links and the background through the use of their AJAX color picker. In addition you can even upload a header graphic to be displayed on the mobile version of your site. They even allow you to monetize your mobile site with Google’s Mobile Adsense. All you need to do is specify your AdSense ID. The only draw back is you have to split your Adsense earnings 50/50 with them.

Notify Unconfirmed Subscribers Plugin

October 8, 2007 | Wordpress | Comments (2)

WordPress

Keith from Techie-Buzz recently released a handy little WordPress plugin, Notify Unconfirmed Subscribers, that will likely help you increase your subscriber base.

If you have been offering RSS Feeds and Email Subscriptions on your site for any length of time, you will likely have at least a few subscribers that have not confirmed or activated their subscription. There are many reasons why a subscriber might not have confirmed their subscription. Maybe it got caught in their SPAM filter, maybe it got deleted by accident or maybe their dog ate it. Regardless of the reason, you have possible readers that are not receiving your content.

In the past it was necessary to individually send reminder emails to each of your unconfirmed subscribers. Now with the Notify Unconfirmed Subscribers plugin these emails can be sent to all unconfirmed subscribers a few short steps, saving you hours of tedious work.

After you have installed the plugin (upload and activate) navigate to the Notify Unconfirmed Subscribers option page in the WordPress admin, enter your FeedBurner account information, create a custom message and send it to all of your unconfirmed subscribers. The whole process takes a matter minutes and is extremely easy.

Average Joe Blogger Upgraded to WordPress 2.3

October 6, 2007 | Wordpress | Comments (9)

WordPressFingers crossed, the transition to WordPress 2.3 is now complete. There were a few hickups (hopefully most of you didn’t notice) but overall it was a pretty smooth transition.

There may still be a few looming issues but as far as I can tell everything is working as it should. If happen to notice anything not functioning correctly please let me know. Thanks to Beau for pointing out the error caused by the Custom Query String plugin. Hopefully someone will update that plugin to be compatible with WordPress 2.3.
