The Million Euro Wiki: A Million Dollar Clone

Hot on the heels of the Million Dollar Wiki is the Euro knockoff Million Euro Wiki trying to capitalize on the success of their idea. The Million Euro Wiki is suppose to be officially going live in the next few days, but some pages have already been sold including JohnChow, Cashcow, Business and Money.
What is the Million Euro Wiki?
According the site the Million Euro Wiki is:
A brand new concept that allows users to participate in an exclusive micro-economy. If you purchase a word, you will become the page owner for a one time fee of €75 (or $100) and the page is yours for as long as you want. You have the right to sell your page for a profit at any time and we promise we will not ask you for any commission on it. Page owners are able to setup an online business on their page and benefit from being part of a community that works as a team to bring in traffic and revenue.
I think the statement “A brand new concept that allows users to participate in an exclusive micro-economy” is a bit of stretch. The Million Euro Wiki seems to be setting them selves up as an exact copy of the Million Dollar Wiki. Even the site design is very similar. In fact the only real difference I can see is the €75 price tag. But that translates to $100, the same as Million Dollar Wiki, so it’s not really different at all.
Should You Purchase a Page on the Million Euro Wiki?
Unless you are really upset that you didn’t get a specific page on the the Million Dollar Wiki, I would say no. From what I can tell, other than the availability of more popular pages, there are no advantages in purchasing a page from the Million Euro Wiki. Maybe if the price were significantly less than the Million Dollar Wiki, or there was some other benefits, it would be worthwhile. The original Million Dollar Wiki has already gotten quite a bit of attention and publicity, and for the same amount of money seems like a better investment.
After the success of the Million Dollar Homepage, we saw several clones pop up trying to make a quick buck, however none were very successful and most quickly faded away. I see no difference in this situation and would guess after some initial attention, the Million Euro Wiki will quickly fade away as well.
Your Thoughts?
What are your thoughts? Is there room for more than one Million Dollar Wiki? Will the Million Euro Wiki find some success or just fade away?

I think there is a big difference between the million dollars website and the million Euro wiki. The million dollars website sells pixels, but the wiki sells a homepage.
The real issue with these types of websites is that whatever traffics/visitors that you get would be diffused instead of targeted and may not be enough to share with others.
Your right, there is a big difference between the Million (Dollar/Euro) Wiki and the Million Dollar Homepage. You have no argument from me on that point and I agree that buying wiki pages are a better investment than buying pixels.
However, other than the loose comparison between the Million Euro Wiki and the clones that followed the Million Dollar Homepage, I’m not comparing pages to pixels.
I think the wiki idea is a brilliant one, but I think if your going to invest in one, the original is better.
I run a similar site (which is a shame that people are comparing our sites and goals, because my site runs long term, not on hype), but I figured I would grab a page as I can easily rank it within the top 5 most popular pages on the MEW, which should be enough to earn my money back, and spread the word. With such a clear copy of the original, and very few added benefits (although a free ipod is a nice touch), I do not think it will last long term. As I always say, only time will tell!

Hi Joe,
Nice honest appraisal, I just linked to your post from my own on the subject:

Its interesting that our sites rank in Google for the term “million euro wiki” when theirs do not.
I suppose that is because it is a new un trusted site, but once Google penalize them for selling links it will be permanent…
This is nothing but a trumped up business directory… those sites rarely have PR or traffic… scam IMO…
[…] in my views of this, with site logic talking of the million euro wiki scam, Nate not thinking million euro wiki is of much benefit, and Angel also becoming sick of all the hype lately, with the million euro wiki […]
I’m not sure if I would go as far as Jez in calling it a scam but I do wonder why John Cow was talking about “they” who own it when it so obviously belongs to him?
Devious at best in my opinion.
[…] to that the fact that the site does not rank for its own name, and the Million Euro Wiki (the poor relation) starts to look like an even poorer […]
It never ceases to amaze me how unoriginal we can be and how quickly people will eat up that originality. This however might be the exception as I’ve been reading a lot of negative feedback about this whole “millioneurowiki” stuff.
I think million dollar wiki works well because it was a novelty. This is just a rip off. And I hate to say that because I’m a fan of John Cow.
I agree, I don’t think it would be worth it to buy a page on this knock-off. I think that pages like these are becoming more of a problem than a novelty. They cheapen the idea of gorilla marketing and make it seem as if the “Internet Get Rich Quick” scheme is reaching a bit too far.
As far as I’m concerned, buying a page on the euro wiki is retarded. flush your money down the toilet. dollar wiki is the one lined up for major press coverage. dollar wiki is the one that’s huge. if I had a hundred bucks I would buy the God page on dollar wiki and put up a big picture of me
