Average Joe Blogger: A 2 Month Progress Report

September 18, 2007 | General

It’s been and eventful and exciting couple of months since Average Joe Blogger went live. During that time Average Joe Blogger has made some significant leaps forward and I thought it was about time I shared some of the progress I’ve made toward my goal of becoming a pro blogger. Honestly, I had planned on writing a progress report around the one month mark, but these first few months have went by so fast I totally spaced it.

Statistics

Let’s start by taking a look at the usual stats from Google, Feedburner, Technorati and Alexa.

Google Analytics

Over the past two months Average Joe Blogger has received just under 7,000 visitors and 15,000 pageviews, averaging out to roughly 117 visitors and 245 pageviews per day. A large number of these visits can be attributed to several posts being stumbled, getting linked by ProBlogger.net, and winning a banner ad on JohnChow.com.

Google Analytics

Feedburner

RSS subscribers have been steadily increasing from the beginning and are now close to breaking the 100 mark.

Feedburner

Technorati and Alexa

Average Joe Blogger has a Technorati authority of 100 with a rank close to the 52,000 mark and an Alexa rank close to 200,000.

Technorati & Alexa

Income

I haven’t spent a great deal of time and energy on monetizing the site just yet, but I think these are pretty decent numbers for a site this young. Here are the revenue streams that have earned money over the past two months.

Direct Ad Sales - $90

This is something that I just started offering over the past couple of weeks and has so far been the biggest money maker.

Referrals - $31.02

I’ve tried out a few referral programs over the past two months but haven’t really pushed it very hard. So far the only referral programs that have made any money are Text Link Ads and Dreamhost.

Google Adsense - $8.49

And bringing up the rear is Google Adsense with a whole $8.49. I’m only running a few of these Adsense spots and I’ve only done some basic optimization and blending, so I’m sure with a little effort Adsense could be a better earner.

Looking Forward

While the last two months have been great, I’m sure that with increased readership and opportunities, the next few will be even better. Here are some of the goals for this site that I will be working on over the next few months and hope to reach by the end of the year.

1. Traffic - 7,500 visitors per month (a little more than double current traffic)
2. RSS Subscribers - 300 RSS Subscribers (triple the current amount)
3. Income - $100/month

Not to sound to awards show like, but I’d like to say thanks to all of my readers for your continued support. Seriously, without you there is no Average Joe Blogger.

Not bad. It’s trending upwards which is a good sign. Hopefully the $$$ will grow exponentially with the increased traffic.

That’s rather a bright report for a 2 month old blog - I don’t happen to see any “Sponsors” though. Am I missing something or haven’t you added them yet?

Karthik: The “Sponsorships” that have been purchased are 3 of the 125×125 ad banners in the upper right hand corner of the site.
